One of my more “controversial” opinions that have split people over the years is that I believe every person should have the ability to kick seven shades of sh*t out of someone for the very reason that it will reduce their chances of needing to.

After all, “It’s better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener at war.”

While some may argue that advocating for physical combat skills promotes violence, I believe the opposite is true.

If you’re sitting on the fence about this, I’ve compiled five reasons that should hopefully persuade you to think otherwise.

Let’s dive in…

#1 Martial Arts Improve Self-Control and Discipline

Martial arts are more than just physical. They help you learn important skills like self-control, respect, and discipline. As you practice martial arts, you get better at handling your emotions and reactions. This means you're less likely to start or join in on fights, making you a master of keeping cool under pressure.

#2 Martial Arts Increase Confidence:

Beyond developing self-control, martial arts also build confidence, which plays a crucial role in how we handle potential conflicts. Learning martial arts does more than teach you how to defend yourself—it also builds your confidence. With higher self-esteem, you're less likely to feel the need to show off or prove yourself in dangerous situations. This means you can stay calm and walk away from trouble, knowing you have nothing to prove.

#3 Martial Arts Teach Conflict Resolution Skills:

Martial arts training isn’t just about physical moves. It also teaches you how to handle disagreements and avoid fights. With these skills, you can calm down tense situations before they turn into actual fights, keeping things peaceful.

#4 Martial Arts Enhances Awareness and Avoidance:

Martial arts training teaches more than just self-defense techniques—it also sharpens your awareness of your environment. By being more alert and knowing how to steer clear of risky situations, you can avoid unnecessary confrontations and stay safer.

#5 Martial Arts Improve Physical Fitness and Reduce Stress:

Practicing martial arts regularly isn't just good exercise; it's a great way to lower stress and aggression. This can lead to fewer aggressive outbursts and less violent behaviour, helping you stay calm and composed.

Learning self-defense is not about promoting violence, but about developing inner strength, peace, and control.

Martial arts empower individuals to defuse conflicts, stay safe, and remain calm under pressure, making them better equipped to handle challenging situations without resorting to aggression.
